ODESSA, Texas – Cameron men's basketball dropped the midweek game at UT Permian Basin 102-73 on Thursday evening inside the Falcon Dome.
Colt Savage recorded a career-high 27 points in the loss. Reggie Prudhomme scored 13 points, Caylen Goff-Brown chipped in nine, Kenyon Holcombe and Andre Washington added eight, and Taylor Cox and Jaylan Thomas had four points.
Thomas grabbed five rebounds, Savage snagged four, Washington pulled in three boards, and Goff-Brown, Holcombe, and Prudhomme added two rebounds.
Prudhomme dished out six assists, Kortland Johnsen added three, and Cox and Holcombe had one.
Cameron opened the game shooting 3-for-16 from the floor and found themselves in a 34-11 hole just over halfway through the first half. The Falcons would close the half leading 51-31. Savage would turn in a perfect shooting performance in the opening half, going 5-for-5 from the floor, sinking 2-of-2 threes, and all four free throws to lead the Aggies with 16 points.
The Black-and-Gold would shoot 10-for-27 from the floor in the first half while going 4-of-13 from beyond the three-point line and made 7-of-8 free throws. UTPB hit 57.9 percent of their shots in the opening half, making 22-of-38 shots, 6-of-13 threes, and their lone free throw, which led them to build a 20-point lead at halftime.
CU scored 11 more points in the second half than in the first half, but the Falcons would score 51 points to double their total.
Cameron lost the glass battle, grabbing 24 rebounds to the 35 of UTPB and dropping the turnover battle 13-8.
UT Permian Basin had five players score in double figures, with two scoring more than 20 points, including a game-high 31 by Azariah Seay.
The Aggies improved their shooting in the second half by 20 percent, hitting 57.7 percent of the shots from the floor, 15-for-26, making 6-of-9 threes for 66.7 percent. UTPB shot an impressive 65.5 percent from the floor in the second half and totaled 61.2 percent from the floor in the game, sinking 41-of-67 shots they took.
The Black-and-Gold will travel to take on Angelo State on Saturday in San Angelo, Texas, at 3:00 pm.
