Aggies Fall on the Road Thursday

ODESSA, Texas – The Cameron women's basketball team fell to the Falcons of UT Permian Basin Thursday evening inside the Falcon Dome 78-58.

The Aggies move to 7-9 overall, 4-6 in the Lone Star Conference, and 2-4 in the West Division.

Katie King scored a team-high 11 points, and Karley Miller joined her in double-figures with 10. Alena Wilson recorded nine points, Korie Allensworth and LaKya Leslie tallied eight, Kailyn Lay added four, Kloe Heidebrecht and Lindsey Waits scored three, and Alannah Gillespie had two points.


Leslie snagged a team-high six rebounds, Allensworth and Wilson grabbed five boards, Lay pulled in four, Miller and Mikayla Peterson collected two boards, and Hallie Horton, King and Kiara Lovings grabbed one.

Lay had five assists, Gillespie dished out two, and Allensworth, King, and Miller added one.


Allensworth swiped four steals, Gillespie grabbed two, and King, Lay, and Miller had one.

Miller swatted three shots, and King added a block.

Miller hit a three to tie the score at 3-3 just under a minute into the game. 30-seconds later, King made a three of her own to give the Aggies a 6-3 lead. CU held that lead for just over a minute, the only lead they would have in the game. UTPB finished the first quarter on a 15-4 run to take an 18-10 lead after one.


The second quarter opened competitively, with both teams scoring early, at the 6:25-mark UTPB had 10 points, to Cameron's nine in the frame, with the Falcons leading 28-19. UT Permian Basin would close the first half on a 15-11 stretch to hold a 43-30 lead at the break.


UTPB would pull away in the second half, outscoring the Black-and-Gold by seven points to win by 20.

CU would shoot 20-for-56 from the floor for 35.7 percent and shoot 5-of-20 from beyond the three-point line for 25 percent. The Aggies made 13-of-15 shots from the charity stripe. The Falcons made 26-of-68 shots making 38.2 percent from the floor; they made 9-of-32 threes at a 28.1 clip, and UTPB hit 17-of-20 free throws. UTPB would outrebound the Aggies 49 to 31, and they would have one more turnover than CU.

Cameron will travel to San Angelo, Texas, on Saturday to take on Angelo State for a 1:00 pm tipoff.
