SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS:
Western New Mexico comes into the matchup struggling as of late, falling in three of four games, dropping their last game to Angelo State. The Mustangs hold an 11-9, 5-9 LSC, and 4-4 DIV. Tony Avalos led WNMU with 17 points, Isaiah Lewis added 14, Jaylin McFadden scored 11, and Amarion Cash scored 10. The Mustangs score 69.9 ppg while surrendering 70.9 ppg. They do not have anyone averaging double-figures, but four players that score more than eight points, Avalos (9.3 ppg), Keith Littles (8.7 ppg), Joshuwan Johnson (8.5 ppg), and DJ Heath (8.3 ppg).
LAST TIME AGAINST WNMU:
Earlier this season, the game started with an Andre Washington steal and slam, which was a good omen for the rest of the first half, where the Aggies held the lead most of the time, eventually seeing their lead swell to 12 points. A scoreless drought in the second half that spanned over three minutes doomed the Aggies and allowed a massive Mustang swing that allowed them to jump out to a lead and win the game 70-66. Caylen Goff-Brown scored a game-high 23 points, DeSean Munson had 13 points, and Washington posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Cameron was dominated on the glass, losing the rebounding battle by ten, but committed five fewer turnovers than WNMU. The CU offense labored down the stretch to finish with just 36 percent shooting from the floor and 22 percent from downtown.
SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS:
Eastern New Mexico is 12-8 on the season, 7-7 in conference play, and 3-5 in the West Division. They have lost five of the last seven games and the previous two games heading into this weekend's contest. Last time out, the Greyhounds battled back from down 16 to tie the game with 27 seconds remaining. UTPB hit two free throws with four seconds left, and a last-second shot by ENMU was unsuccessful as they fell 74-72. Greg Johnson had a team-high 20 points in the loss. They score 73.0 points per game, shooting 31.8 percent from the field and 35.8 percent from three. The Greyhounds allow opponents to score 69.9 ppg, making 41.6 percent from the field and 33.5 percent from beyond the arc. They have four players averaging double-digits: Jahcoree Ealy (13.3 ppg), Eze Dike (11.2 ppg), Errol White (10.6 ppg), and Johnson (10.4 ppg).
LAST TIME AGAINST ENMU:
In the last meeting earlier this season, four Aggies scored in double-figures, led by Jaylan Thomas with 17 points, Caylen Goff-Brown scored 15, DeSean Munson had 12, and Reggie Prudhomme recorded 11, but that was not enough to take down the Greyhounds, falling 78-70. The game started promising for the Black-and-Gold, controlling an 11-2 lead at the 14-minute mark in the first half. This game saw seven lead changes five times, but despite holding the lead for 15 minutes, the Aggies still fell by eight points. CU lost the rebounding battle by ten boards, and each team had 15 turnovers a piece. The Aggies shot 39 percent from long distance but limited the Greyhounds to 26 percent from deep.
