LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron Aggies get swept by the Angelo State Rams, who posted 15 runs on their way to a 15-4 run-rule victory in seven innings at McCord Field.
CU came into Sunday afternoon searching for that elusive second win; to earn it, they would have had to hand the Rams their first loss of the season by getting past former Texas Longhorns hurler Mason Bryant, who took the hill for ASU.
Bryant was effective in the first frame getting the Black-and-Gold in order before getting into some trouble in the second frame that started with a Holden Tate homer, his third round-tripper on a Sunday afternoon this season. The DI transfer then issued back-to-back free passes, and eventually, the Aggies cashed in one of those walks on a wild pitch. Despite those two runs, the Austin, Texas native punched out seven batters through four innings.
Brendan Moran had an equally good start to the afternoon, striking out the side in the top half of the first, but also got into a second-inning jam with the Rams doing four runs worth of damage in that frame. Moran's day was done with four innings tossed, five runs allowed on two hits, and five strikeouts.
Tate picked up two of the three hits for Cameron, with Beau Williams tallying the third, but Zac DeLong had some of the best at-bats on the team. The Lawton, Okla., native worked three walks in this contest, while Spencer Simpson earned two free passes. Simpson parlayed those two walks into two runs for the Black-and-Gold, while DeLong was plated once in his three walks.
Up Next, the Aggies will back their bags and hit the road to take on the Texas A&M-International Dustdevils in Laredo, Texas, for a four-game Lone Star Conference Set. The series will start on Friday, with the first pitch set for 2:00 pm. The two squads will play a doubleheader on Saturday at noon and wrap up the four-game slate on Sunday at 4:00 pm.
