Cameron Falls to the Dustdevils

LAREDO, Texas – Cameron men's basketball drops a hard-fought 76-71 game to Texas A&M International Thursday evening in the TAMIU Convocation Center.

Andre Washington recorded a game-high 22 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the floor and making six-of-seven free throws. Caylen Goff-Brown scored 13, DeSean Munson, Reggie Prudhomme, and Jaylan Thomas chipped in 10 points, and Taylor Cox and Colt Savage scored three points.

To go with his game-high scoring numbers, Washington grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, Kenyon Holcombe and Thomas hauled in four boards, Munson and Prudhomme snagged two, and Cox, Goff-Brown, and Savage added one rebound.

Thomas dished out four dimes, Prudhomme had three assists, Goff-Brown, Munson, and Washington added two, and Cox and Holcombe had one.

Thomas and Washington snared a steal.

Holcombe blocked a shot.

Cameron would shoot 47.3 percent from the field in the game, cooling off a little after scorching the nets for 50 percent in the first half. The Black-and-Gold made 37.5 percent of the three-pointers and made 13-of-14 free throws. TAMIU made 44.3 percent of their shots, 23.1 percent of long-range shots, and connected 16-of-22 free throws.

The Aggies opened the game with a quick 5-0 lead before the Dustdevils would take an eight-point lead at 15-7 with 13 minutes to play in the first half. CU battled back, chipping away at the International lead before a Washington layup with 3:16 left in half would give the Black-and-Gold a 30-29 lead. Cameron closed the first half on a 12-7 run to take a 37-36 lead into the break.

The Dustdevils would take charge coming out of the intermission, retaking the lead on the first possession. The Aggies would take a 41-40 lead at the 17:48 mark, but a quick TAMIU response would steal the lead back and not surrender the rest of the way. International would extend their lead to as much as 11 points at 63-52. Cameron would try to claw back, getting the game within one score, but free throws late would put the game out of reach.

The Aggies will face Texas A&M Kingsville on Saturday at 3 pm in Kingsville, Texas.
