LAREDO, Texas – Cameron closes out the last long road trip by falling 83-72 to Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday inside the Steinke PE Center.
DeSean Munson scored a season-high 25 points off the bench, as the Aggie big man would connect on 12-of-18 shots from the floor and make his lone free throw attempted. He also pulled in a season-high 10 rebounds.
Caylen Goff-Brown turned in 17 points, Colt Savage chipped in 11, Jaylan Thomas added eight points, Reggie Prudhomme scored four, Taylor Cox had three, and Kenyon Holcombe and Andre Washington recorded two points.
Thomas added nine rebounds, Cox grabbed five, Goff-Brown and Prudhomme snagged three, and Savage and Washington hauled in one board.
Prudhomme had eight dimes in the game, Thomas dished out four assists, Washington added three, and Cox had two assists.
Cox, Goff-Brown, and Munson had a steal.
CU shot 44.3 percent from the floor, knocking down 27-of-61 shots. The Aggies struggled from long-range, making 25.9 percent, only connecting on seven attempts, and scoring on 11-of-15 free throws. TAMUK made 47.5 percent of their shots, 42.9 percent of three-pointers, and 15-of-20 from the charity stripe.
Both teams would trade baskets early on, with Kingsville holding a 10-7 lead three minutes in. Cameron would go the next six-plus minutes without a made basket, finding themselves in a 22-12 hole. The Javelinas would have an answer every time CU attempted to make a run, holding them off and building a 19-point lead at the half at 47-28.
Early in the second half, the Aggies would go on a 13-6 run to get the game down to a 14-point deficit with 14:36 to play. A layup by Munson with 10 minutes left in the game would bring it to a 13-point gap. Munson and company would not give up down the stretch, chipping away at the Kingsville lead. With 3:26 to play, Munson makes it a nine-point game. CU got it to a seven-point game, but they ran out of time, unable to complete the comeback.
The Black-and-Gold will finish their season on Thursday when they travel to take on rival Midwestern State at 7:30 pm in Wichita Falls, Texas.
