Cameron Drops two Saturday

LAREDO, Texas – Cameron falls twice against Texas A&M International on Saturday, losing the opener 16-4, before falling in the nightcap 6-1 at Jorge Haynes Field in Laredo, Texas.

Jayce Clem was 2-for-3 with two RBI, a run, and a home run, Trent Mallonee went 2-for-3 with a run, an RBI, a walk, and a double, and Hunter Smith had a 2-for-3 game, with a run and a double. Kai Hershberger and Will Bradley collected the other two hits for the Aggies.

Drew Henderson started pitching 4.1 innings allowing five runs on six hits while striking out six. Max Garrett faced two batters, walking both and surrendering two runs. Jacob Acheson threw 1.1 innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on four hits with a strikeout. Carter Bourg gave up four runs on four hits without recording an out. Clem got the final out, allowing a hit.

Clem singled home Mallonee in the first to give CU a 1-0 lead early.

The Dustdevils would score three runs in the third to take a 3-1 lead.

In the fourth, the Aggies answered with a Bradley single to score Hershberger.

International scored five runs in the fifth.

Clem hit a solo home run in the sixth to cut the deficit to 8-3.

TAMIU scored eight runs in the sixth.

Mallonee doubled home Smith in the top of the second to end the scoring at 16-4.

In game two, Garrett Klein started on the bump, going five innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on six hits, with four strikeouts. Josh Hernandez faced four batters, walking them all and giving up a run. Grayden Stauffer threw 1.0 inning, striking out two.

The Aggies were held to three hits, one from Ryan Allen, Mallonee, and Beau Williams. Allen would collect the lone run and RBI with a home run.

Allen gave the Black-and-Gold a 1-0 lead in the second.

TAMIU would score two in the second, two in the third, and one in the fifth and sixth innings to take game two 6-1.

Cameron will conclude the four-game series on Sunday, with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm.
