LAWTON, Okla. – Cameron softball takes down UT Permian Basin in the finale with an 11-2 run rule Saturday afternoon at McMahon Field.
Taylor Rowley stays scorching hot for the Aggies, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, a home run, and stole one base, while Maci McMurtrey was 2-for-2 with three RBI, a run and a double. Ashlynn Bruce, Kaiden Boren, Karis Clark, Alyssa Deanda, and Mikayla Richmond recorded a base knock in the win. Boren scored two runs and drove in one. Richmond had two RBI, while Bruce, Clark, Khmari Edwards, Kylie French, and Josie Swafford scored a run.
Jocelyn Bright pitched a complete game allowing two runs, one three hits, with five strikeouts. The Aggies improve to 6-3, winning six straight and starting the season 3-0 in the Lone Star Conference.
French scored in the first on a successful double steal. Swafford moved to third on a grounder by Rowley but scored after a miscue from the Falcons. McMurtrey slapped a liner back up the middle to score Boren and Rowley to cap the CU scoring in the first, building an early 4-0 lead.
UTPB got a run on the scoreboard in the second. In the bottom of the second, the Black-and-Gold answered back. Edwards and Bruce completed the second double steal of the game, with Bruce scoring. Boren hit an infield single to plate Edwards, Rowley smacked a two-run home run to left to bring home Boren, McMurtrey doubled into the gap in left-center to score Clark, and McMurtrey scored on a single from Richmond.
The Falcons scored the second run in the fourth.
Rowley scored the final run on a ground ball from Richmond to round out the scoring on the day with an 11-2 lead.
Bright would retire UTPB in order to close the game out in the top of the fifth to secure the win.
Cameron will travel to Tyler, Texas, to face UT Tyler for the first mid-week LSC series of the season, with a doubleheader starting at 2:00 pm.
