PORTALES, NM – The Cameron men's basketball team dropped the matchup against Eastern New Mexico, the largest defeat the Aggies have suffered on the season at 93-63 in the Greyhound Arena Saturday afternoon.
The loss moved CU to 4-19, as they return home to face Angelo State on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 7:30 pm.
The Black-and-Gold were led by Caylen Goff-Brown with 15 points, while DeSean Munson and Reggie Prudhomme joined him in double-figures with 13 points. Jaylan Thomas chipped in eight points, Jaden Okon and Colt Savage scored five points, and Taylor Cox and Andre Washington had two.
Thomas and Washington led the team with seven rebounds, Prudhomme snagged six, Goff-Brown and Munson collected five, Okon added three, and Nikolaos Argyropoulos, Kenyon Holcombe, and Savage had one.
Prudhomme dished out four dimes, Argyropoulos and Cox had two assists, and Munson, Thomas, and Washington had one.
Prudhomme, Goff-Brown, and Thomas had a steal.
Holcombe and Kortland Johnsen blocked a shot.
Cameron was outrebounded in the game by seven boards, as ENMU secured 47 to CU's 40. The Aggies would turn the ball over 20 times, allowing 24 points off turnovers while forcing 13 and scoring 10 points.
CU knocked down 18-of-58 shots in the game for 31.0 percent, shot 25.7 percent from three-point range, making 9-of-35, and shot 18-for-22 at the charity stripe. The Greyhounds hit an impressive 49.3 percent from the field, making 34-of-69 shots, connecting on 10-of-25 from long range, and shooting 15-for-27 at the free throw line.
The game was close early as the teams traded baskets, ending up tied at 10-10 five minutes into the game before Eastern would go on a 16-2 run to build a 14-point lead at 26-12. Throughout the rest of the first half, ENMU would slowly build up to a 20-point lead at 47-27, outscoring Cameron 21-15 over the final 10 minutes.
Kevin O'Connor's squad made some adjustments at the break, opening the second half on an 8-0 run. The Greyhounds used a 13-3 stretch over five minutes to extend their lead to 24-points at 67-43 with 9:51 to play. During the final 10 minutes, the Aggies would score 20 points but could not get any closer to Eastern as they rattled off 26 points to close out the game.
