PORTALES, N.M. – The Cameron softball team goes on the road and takes down Eastern New Mexico in the series opener 6-3 Saturday evening at the Greyhound Softball Field.
The Black-and-Gold moves to 12-10 overall and 9-7 in the Lone Star Conference.
Khmari Edwards carried the Aggies in game one of the series with ENMU, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, a home run, and a stolen base. Kylie French was 2-for-4, Kaiden Boren was 1-for-3 with a walk, Ashlynn Bruce went 1-for-3 with a run, Kelsye Loughman was 1-for-1 with a run and an RBI, and Taylor Rowley had a 1-for-3 game with a run, an RBI, and a home run.
Robyn Bales goes the distance for CU in the circle, pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out two.
Edwards gave CU a 1-0 lead in the third inning with a solo home run to left center.
ENMU took a 2-1 lead with two runs in the fourth inning.
Edwards scored on an error to tie the game at 2-2 in the fifth.
In the sixth, Rowley hit a solo home run to center to break the tie and give the Black-and-Gold a 3-2 lead. Loughman hits a two-out single to left to knock in Rylee Ross, and Edwards bloops a two-run single into the gap in right-center to make it a 6-2 game.
The Greyhounds get a run back in the bottom half of the sixth to cut it to a 6-3 game.
Neither team got anything going in the seventh, as the game ended in favor of the Aggies 6-3.
Cameron and ENMU will meet tomorrow for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm MT.
