Aggies Drop Game Four to Buffs

LAWTON, Okla. – Cameron falls in game four to the Buffs and gets swept by West Texas A&M at McCord Field.

The Aggies looked to avoid being swept by the West Texas A&M Buffs at McCord Field on Sunday. The two teams played game four on an overcast day in Lawton, Okla., with the Buffs securing the series victory with a doubleheader sweep in two back-and-forth games less than 24 hours ago.

CU skipper Kyle Williams gave the ball to Drew Durst to start game four against a dangerous Buffs lineup, the junior from Frisco, Texas. Durst issued back-to-back free passes, and his day was done as the Black-and-Gold opener.

Weston Max came into the contest and immediately earned three outs for CU to hold the Buffs to just one first-inning run.

The Aggie pitching staff would only keep the Buffs silent for a short time, as WT eventually posted 20 runs on their way to another run-rule victory.

The Cameron offense continued their hot streak, with eight runs posted on the scoreboard.

The scoring started with a Lance Barnett RBI single in the first frame before the Black-and-Gold strung together two runs in the fourth inning thanks to a balk call and a Trent Mallonee RBI single.

In the sixth inning, Cameron posted five runs, getting jump-started by another Mallonee RBI single; Hunter Smith followed him up with the same outcome, capped off by three-run Beau Williams home run over the right field wall.

Jayce Clem collected a multi-hit game, as did Barnett, but it was Mallonee who led the way with four of the Black-and-Gold's 12 hits.

Up Next, the Cameron Aggies pause Lone Star Conference play to face off with their first non-conference opponent on Tuesday against Southwestern Oklahoma State.
