PORTALES, N.M. – The Cameron Aggies get swept in Friday's doubleheader as bats go cold in New Mexico.
The Aggies won a back-and-forth game one to open up their series against Eastern New Mexico in a contest that saw the Black-and-Gold produce 16 runs en route to a win. On Friday, the two teams played a doubleheader where Cameron combined for seven runs across the two games.
In game two of the series, it was a pitcher's duel as CU turned to Marcos Feria, who tossed four innings of one-hit baseball but let up a run and six walked batters, though Feria did have as many punchouts. Out of the Bullpen, Garrett Klein finished the final two innings where he gave up two runs on five hits but did earn a strikeout while not issuing a free pass. Cameron only turned in five hits but scored twice when Beau Williams plated Trent Mallonee on a ground ball to second before Jayce Clem singled to score Colby Flood, who recorded two of the five hits.
In game three of the series, the Aggies swiped an early lead in the second inning when Drew Durst laid down a bunt to score Hunter Smith before Durst came back up to extend the Black-and-Gold lead to two via a home run to deep center in the fourth inning. Clem then homered to left, but that was the end of the Aggies scoring in the fifth inning, and four runs were not enough to hold off the Greyhounds. ENMU scored ten runs, five of which came in the fifth inning.
Up next, these two teams will end their series on Saturday, with the first pitch coming at 1:00 pm as CU attempts to split the series with Eastern New Mexico.
