AUSTIN, Texas – In the opening game of the series with St. Edward's, Josie Swafford threw a one-hitter, leading to Cameron's 3-0 win. The Aggies fell in the second game 4-1 at Diane Daniels Field on Friday afternoon.
CU's record goes to 22-15 overall and 18-11 in the Lone Star Conference, ranking fifth in the final month of play.
The Black-and-Gold scattered five, with three coming in the three-run first inning. Karis Clark was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run, Kylie French went 1-of-4 with a run, Kelsye Loughman had a 1-for-1 outing off the bench, Taylor Rowley was 1-for-4 with two RBI, and Swafford went 1-for-2 with a run and a walk.
Swafford collected five strikeouts and allowed one hit in the seven-inning shutout. In her two outings this week, she allowed a run, five hits and struck out 13 over 15 innings.
The only runs scored in the game came in the top of the first inning. Clark singled through the left side to drive in French, then Rowley had a single through the right side to knock in Swafford and Clark to make it 3-0, which was all Swafford needed.
In the second game, Loughman stayed perfect on the day, with a 3-for-3 with a double, Kaiden Boren was 1-for-3 with an RBI, Clark was 1-for-3, Khmari Edwards had a 1-for-4 outing with a run and a stolen base, and Kyndel McDaniel went 1-for-3.
Robyn Bales threw six innings, surrendering four runs on six hits while striking out three.
Boren drove in Edwards with an infield single to second to make it 1-0 in the top of the first.
SEU responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame to make it 3-1.
The Hilltoppers added a run in the sixth to close the scoring at 4-1.
Cameron and St. Edward's will meet for the rubber match at noon Saturday.
