Cameron Drops Series to SEU

AUSTIN, Texas – The Cameron softball team could not complete the comeback, as they dropped the rubber match in the series with St. Edward's 7-6 on Saturday at the Diane Daniels Field.

CU's record goes to 22-16 overall and 18-12 in the Lone Star Conference. The Aggies will return home to host Texas A&M International on Thursday with a doubleheader starting at 2:00 pm. The S.A.A.C. will host an Easter egg hunt on the field after the second game.

Taylor Rowley led the Black-and-Gold, going 2-for-4 with a run, an RBI, and a double. Kaiden Boren was 1-for-4 with an RBI, Khmari Edwards was 1-for-4 with a run, Kylie French went 1-for-4 with a run and a double, Kyndel McDaniel had a 1-for-2 outing with a run and a walk, and Josie Swafford was 1-for-4 scoring a run.

Swafford suffered the loss in the circle surrendering seven runs, five earned on nine hits and striking out six.

SEU took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning.

The Aggies responded in the second with a Rowley double to score Swafford, Rowley then scored on a throwing error by the catcher, and McDaniel came home on the second Hilltopper error of the inning to tie the game at 3-3.

In the bottom of the third, St. Edward's got two runs, and then they added a run in the sixth to build a 6-3 lead.

Cameron rallied in the seventh to tie the game at 6-6 with Maci McMurtrey scoring on a wild pitch, then Boren lined a two-run single to center to knock in Edwards and French.

The Hilltoppers would get their leadoff in the seventh's bottom half. She moved to second on a bad throw, followed by a sacrifice bunt, before they got a hit to walk it off with a 7-6 win.
