AUSTIN, Texas – The Cameron baseball team falls in game four of the series with St. Edward's 21-11 in seven innings on Sunday at Lucian-Hamilton Field.
Beau Williams went 2-for-3 with two runs, an RBI, a double, and a walk, Kai Hershberger was 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI and a home run, and Trent Mallonee was 2-for-4 with a run. Will Bradley was 1-for-2 with a run, Zac DeLong was 1-for-3 with four RBI, a run, and a home run, and Spencer Simpson had a 1-for-3 outing with a run and a walk. Ryan Allen and Hunter Smith would each draw a walk and score a run, and Riley Hines walked twice and scored a run.
Evan Nichols started for the Aggies, and he would face five batters and allow four runs on three hits. Nate Creason pitched 1.2 innings, surrendering four runs on two hits with two strikeouts. Garrett Klein threw 1.1 innings, giving up nine runs on nine hits and striking out two. Weston Max came in and went 2.2 allowing four runs on five hits with a strikeout.
The Hilltoppers built a 6-0 lead over the first two innings.
CU would take the lead at 7-6 in the third with seven runs off a bases-loaded walk for Williams, a bunt single from Hershberger. Smith got hit by a pitch and a grand slam from DeLong.
SEU answered with seven runs in the bottom of the third to take a 13-7 lead.
St. Edward's added to their lead in the fourth with six runs to extend their advantage to 19-7.
Hershberger would hit a solo home run in the fifth to make it a 19-8 game.
In the sixth, Hines scored on a wild pitch, Simpson came in on an error from SEU, and Williams crossed the plate after another Hilltopper wild pitch to make it 19-11.
St. Edward's scored two runs in their half of the inning to make it a 21-11 game after six innings.
In the seventh, Cameron mounted a rally getting two runners on but could not bring them in, falling via the run-rule in seven innings.
Next weekend Cameron returns home to host a series at McCord Field against West Texas A&M starting on Friday, March 10, at 3:00 pm.
