LAWTON, Okla. – Cameron fell in both halves of the doubleheader on Saturday to UT Permian Basin, dropping the opener 10-5, before losing the nightcap 5-1 at McCord Field.
Drew Durst led the Aggies with a 2-for-4 game driving in three, scoring a run, a home run, and a double. Jayce Clem was 1-for-3 with two RBI, a run, a double, and a walk. Colby Flood went 1-for-3 scoring two runs and drawing a walk, Kai Hershberger was 1-for-4 with a double, and Trent Mallonee had a 1-for-4 outing.
Drew Henderson started, lasting 3.2 innings, allowing seven runs, six earned on four hits and five walks, with two strikeouts. Evan Nichols faced four batters, walking two both and allowing two hits, surrendering two runs, one earned. Carter Bourg threw 3.1 innings, giving up four hits and striking out two.
UTPB took a 2-0 lead in the second.
Durst tied the game at 2-2 in the third with a two-run home run to left that scored Flood.
The Falcons rallied for seven runs in the fourth before adding their final run in the sixth to build a 10-2 advantage.
CU attempted a comeback in the seventh, scoring three runs off back-to-back doubles from Clem and Durst. Clem drove in Flood and Beau Williams, while Durst plated Clem to make the final 10-5.
In game two, Marcos Feria went the distance, earning the loss, giving up five runs off eight hits with six strikeouts.
The Black-and-Gold spread out five hits, with Durst going 1-for-3 with a run, an RBI, and a home run. Kody Bigford went 1-for-2, Hershberger was 1-for-2 with a double and a hit-by-pitch, Mallonee had a 1-for-3 outing, and Holden Tate collected a pinch-hit single.
UTPB went ahead 2-0 in the first and added a third run in the fourth.
Durst hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 3-1.
The Falcons closed the game with two runs in the sixth for a 5-1 final.
Cameron will close the series, looking for a split on Sunday with the first pitch at 1:00 pm.
