EDMOND, Okla. – The Cameron baseball team earned a series-opening victory for the seventh time this season, improving to 10-33 behind a seven-run outburst highlighted by a solo home run from Kai Hershberger.
The Aggies turned to Carter Boug to start today's contest. This game represents his first start, as he went three innings, only allowing one hit, one run, and striking out one batter. Boug only faced 11 Eagles, his lone mistake being an RBI double surrendered in the third frame.
Drew Henderson came out of the bullpen to finish the game for the Black-and-Gold, going the final six innings, allowing just two hits and punching out eight Eagle batters.
The CU offense collected seven hits, two off the bat of Trent Mallonee, with Kody Bigford, Beau Williams, Jayce Clem, Hershberger, and Randy Aberouette combining for the other five.
The scoring started in the third inning with Bigford's double to deep center that scored Mallonee and Spencer Simpson. Then Clem had a productive out to score Bigford.
In the fourth frame, Hershberger clubbed a one-out homer over the left field wall before Simpson's ground out scored Aberouette.
Drew Durst had a productive ground out in the fifth inning to score Williams. The scoring finally ended in the seventh when Hershberger worked a bases-loaded walk that allowed Bigford to trot home.
Cameron and OC will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 2:00 pm.
