Lawton, OK. – Cameron University's Women's Basketball team showcased resilience and precision in an exciting matchup against Northwestern Oklahoma State, clinching a close victory with a final score of 82-78 at the Aggie Gym.
The Aggies were led by standout performances from
Grace Alverson and
Shamica Smith.
Alverson posted an impressive 20 points, including five three-pointers, while
Smith contributed a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Kennedy Cummings added 14 points, highlighted by a flawless 9-for-9 showing from the free-throw line.
Cameron rallied after a slow first quarter, where they trailed 22-14. They steadily gained momentum, scoring 23 points in the third quarter and finishing strong with 28 points in the fourth. The Aggies' sharp three-point shooting and clutch free-throw performance down the stretch sealed the win.
Defensively, Cameron held their own against the Rangers, with key blocks by
Kennedy Cummings and
Shamica Smith, who also led the team in rebounds. The Aggies capitalized on turnovers, converting 14 points off Northwestern's mistakes.
With this win, Cameron University evens their record at 2-2 in non-conference play. Their next challenge will be against West Texas A&M on December 5, 2024, in Canyon, Texas.
