The Cameron Aggies women's golf team made a stellar start to the Oklahoma Women's Intercollegiate Golf tournament on Monday, September 16th, at the Lawton Golf and Country Club. The Aggies showcased their prowess on the course, securing the top spot after Round 1 with an impressive team score of 294 strokes.
Trio of Aggies Share Individual Lead
Leading the charge for Cameron were standout performers Maria Jose
Savoca, Mollie Wheeler, and Malerie Nyberg. All three golfers demonstrated exceptional skill, each carding a round of 70 to share the individual lead. Their outstanding performances set the tone for the team's success and positioned them as the players to watch in the tournament.
Cameron Outpaces Strong Field
The Aggies' dominance was evident as they outpaced a field of six competing colleges. Angelo State University followed closely behind with 297 strokes, while UT Dallas rounded out the top three with 305 strokes. NW Oklahoma State with 308 strokes, Redlands CC with 317 strokes, and Murray State (OK) with 367 strokes completed the Day 1 standings.
Valentina Leya Serrano also contributed to the Aggies' strong showing, adding depth to an already formidable lineup. The team's cohesive performance and individual brilliance have set a high bar for the remainder of the tournament.
