Dominating Performance Continues on Day 2
The women's golf team maintained their exceptional form during the second day of the Oklahoma Women's Intercollegiate Golf tournament on Tuesday, September 17th. Competing at the Lawton Golf and Country Club, the Aggies solidified their position at the top of the leaderboard with a commanding performance.
Aggies Secure First Place
Building on their strong start, the Cameron Aggies finished the tournament in first place with a total of 593 strokes over the two rounds. Their closest competitor, Angelo State University, trailed by 18 strokes with a total of 611. The Aggies' stellar play set them apart from the field of six colleges, which included NW Oklahoma State University (613 strokes), UT Dallas (622 strokes), Redlands CC (638 strokes), and Murray State (OK) with 713 strokes.
Individual Brilliance: Savoca and Wheeler Lead the Way
Maria Jose Savoca emerged as the standout performer of the tournament, clinching victory in both rounds. Savoca carded an impressive 70 strokes in the first round, followed by a solid 72 in the second, for a combined total of 142 strokes over the two days.
Not to be outdone, Mollie Wheeler secured a strong second-place finish. Wheeler improved on her first-round score of 74 with a matching 72 in the second round, concluding the tournament with a total of 146 strokes. Her consistent play was crucial to the Aggies' overall success.
Team Effort Secures Victory
While Savoca and Wheeler led from the front, the entire Cameron Aggies team contributed to the victory. Their combined efforts over the two days demonstrated the depth and talent of the squad, setting a high standard for collegiate women's golf.
Looking Ahead: Westminster Invitational
With this impressive victory under their belts, the women's golf team turns their attention to their next challenge. The team will travel to South Jordan, Utah for a two-day Invitational at the Glenmoor Golf Club. Scheduled for Sunday, September 22nd through Monday, September 23rd, this tournament will see the Aggies face off against the Westminster Griffins.
As they prepare for this upcoming competition, the Aggies carry with them the momentum and confidence gained from their dominant performance at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate.
