LAWTON, Okla. - The Cameron University volleyball team snapped a skid and got back in the win column with a convincing 3-1 over the Texas A&M International Dustdevils on Friday night.
The Aggies (5-15, 1-6 LSC) bounce back and move to 2-2 in Aggie Gym on the year.
CU opened the match strong with a 4-0 lead to open the match before the two squads battled back-and-forth down the stretch. A 6-2 run for TAMIU proved the difference as the Dustdevils took the first set, 23-25.
A response came quickly as the Aggies took early control of the second set, storming all the way to a 22-15 lead. The Dustdevils put together a last ditch surge, but the Aggies closed the set and tied up the match, 25-21.
Set three played out in a similar fashion to the second set, with CU storming to a commanding nine-point lead. Once again, TAMIU cobbled a last-minute 7-3 run to close the gap before the Aggies put the set to bed, 25-19.
The fourth set was all Aggies, quickly jumping to a ten-point lead, 16-6. The Dustdevils responded with an 8-1 run, but the Aggies did not look back, closing the match with an 8-2 run of their own. 25-16.
Anastasija Andelic was the leading Aggie on offense, tallying 13 kills on a .286 attacking percentage.
Rachael White powered the night for CU with 24 assists. Defensively, Andelic also led the squad in digs with 17 while
Jennifer Valdez totaled a team-leading four block assists and a solo block.
