LAWTON, Okla. - The Cameron University volleyball team gave a tough fight but came up short in their first matchup of the season against a ranked opponent, falling to No. 22 Angelo State on Saturday afternoon, 1-3.
After falling to a 10-3 deficit in set one, the Aggies rallied back to cut the gap to 14-12, but the Rambelles pulled away once again to take the first frame, 17-25.
ASU controlled most of the second set, using a 6-1 and an 8-0 run to put distance that CU could not close, 12-25
The Aggies recovered quickly in set three, quickly storming out to an 11-5 lead. The Rambelles put together a rally of their own, tying the set at 13-13 before the Aggies put a 5-0 run on the board. ASU closed the gap once again, but the Aggies held strong and took the set, 25-22.
In set three, the two squads played closely through the opening stages, 6-8, but ASU strung together two lengthy runs to put the match out of reach, 12-25.
Kayla Eggiman was the leading Aggie on offense with eight kills on the match, while
Rachael White powered the Aggie offense with 17 assists. Defensively, Eggiman also led the squad in digs at 14.
Presleigh Roest was a wall at the net, recording five block assists and three solo blocks with no errors.

The Aggies are back on the road as they head to the Lone Star State to take on Lubbock Christian and Midwestern State. First up will be LCU on Oct. 10 at 6 PM, followed by MSU on Oct. 11 at 2 PM. Both matches will be available on FloCollege.
