Lawton, Okla- Women's Tennis team wins their 2nd straight match against MIAA opponent Northwest Missouri State 4-3 in home match Sunday. After being rained out Saturday, the Aggies came out strong by claiming the doubles point with strong play at #2 doubles by
Magda Wawrowska and
Martyna Jankowska with a 6-3 win after a dominating performance at #1 doubles with a 6-1 win by
Jenna Goessel and
Anastasia Uspenskaia.
Cameron came out strong after the doubles with straight set victories at #2, #3, and #4 singles to decide the match by Jankowska, Goessel, and Wawrowska. The Aggies continued to compete for the extra match wins after the decision before dropping the remaining matches in close decisions. At #1 singles, Uspenskaia lost a close 3 set match to a nationally ranked opponent after dropping the first set. The two freshman battled through tough matches as well at #5 and #6 in straight set losses. Coach
Josh Cobble said this about the performance: "We have had several challenges this semester in dealing with injuries, but we have a standard of what it means to compete well here at Cameron and these ladies have continued to step up to that standard. Our opportunity to succeed this year is going to be determined in how well we compete together every time we step out on the court. This match shows what they are capable of together."
The Aggies will attempt to continue their winning ways when they host Southwest Baptist on Wedensday, March 12 at 1pm at the Streich-Henry Family Tennis Complex at Cameron.
