Men's Tennis Upsets #5 Washburn 4-3

On Monday afternoon at Cameron University, the Cameron Men's Tennis team clinched a pivotal 4-3 victory against the #5 ranked Washburn Ichabods, marking a significant achievement for the Aggies in their current season.

In what was an intense and closely fought battle, Cameron's performance was highlighted by outstanding singles and doubles matches. Louis Boilevin, ranked #32, delivered a stunning upset by defeating #5 Tim Hammes with scores of 7-5, 6-3. This victory was a standout moment, underscoring Boilevin's skill and determination against a top-ranked opponent. Further cementing the team's success, Vicente Preto continued his winning streak by securing his 5th consecutive singles match victory against Matthew Earle, while Kristian Kubik also triumphed over Zinovii Nahirniak, 6-3, 6-4.

The doubles matches also mirrored the intensity of the singles, with Kristian Kubik pairing with Lachlan Setina to secure a 6-2 victory against the formidable duo of Tim Hammes and Matthew Earle. This performance in doubles was critical in setting the stage for the overall win.

Rhys Edwards played a crucial role in clinching the match for Cameron after dropping the 1st set 6-1. His victory in the #5 Singles match against #71 Tommaso Cecchetti provided the deciding point, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure.

Reflecting on the win, the Head Coach Josh Cobble stated, "This is a great win for the team. They have been working to find solutions, and today is the fruit of doing the right things beating a strong team like Washburn." With spirits high, the Aggies are preparing for their next challenge against #11 Midwestern State at the MSU Tennis Center in Wichita Falls, TX, on the following day, March 18, 2025.
