Aggies Down UT Dallas to Open LSC Challenge

AUSTIN, Texas - With conference play on the horizon, the Cameron University women's volleyball team opened the preview weekend with a confident 3-1 win over UT Dallas on Friday night.

The Aggies (4-7, 0-0 LSC) are 4-3 in their last seven matches, already doubling their win total from the previous season.

In set one, the Aggies stormed out to a 14-5 advantage and did not look back, holding the lead from wire to wire. The Comets attempted a comeback, closing the deficit to within five at one point in the set, but that was as close as they would ever get as CU took the opening point, 25-18.

The Aggies grabbed a similar lead in set two, 10-6, but the Comets put together a late run to take control of the set, 16-22, with a 7-0 run. However, with UTD at set point, the Aggies mounted their own 6-0 run to tie at 24-24 before taking two of the next three points and the set, 27-25.

UT Dallas controlled most of set three, as the Aggies were unable to bring themselves within striking distance, 17-25.

Cameron found their groove again in the fourth set. After an early back-and-forth battle, the Aggies cobbled together a 9-5 run to gain control of the set and take the lead to the finish line in dominant fashion, 25-16.

Kayla Eggiman led the Aggie offense with 12 kills on a .313 attacking percentage, while Rachael White racked up a team-leading 24 assists in the contest. Shelby Rusch tallied 17 digs in the four sets, and Maria Osorio had a dominant day at the net with 5.0 blocks.
