RICHARDSON, Texas - The Cameron University volleyball team closed the opening week of LSC play with a hard-fought match against the Comets of UT Dallas, but came up short, 2-3.
The Aggies (4-10, 0-2 LSC) will return home for their first matches in Aggie Gym in nine matches.
Both squads traded 25-21 results in the first two sets, with UTD taking the first and the Aggies taking the second. In a hotly contested third set, the Aggies held a 20-18 led and closed the set with a 5-1 run to inch ahead in the match, 2-1.
The Comets controlled most of set four, pulling away early and taking the frame, 15-25, to force a fifth set.Â
UTD led wire-to-wire in the fifth set, taking a 4-8 lead into the side switch that the Aggies could not close.
Kayla Eggiman led the Aggies offensively, tallying 12 kills on the afternoon on a .407 attacking percentage, while
Kayla Quintana and
Rachael White racked up 21 and 20 assists, respectively.
Quintana also led defensively for the team with a total of 16 digs, while
Presleigh Roest led the squad in blocks with 3.0.
UP NEXT
CU returns to Lawton for their first home match since Sept. 9 against East Central. The Aggies will take on UT Permian Basin and No. 20 Angelo State on Oct. 3 at 6 PM and on Oct. 4 at 2 PM, respectively.
