Volleyball Falls to Rockhurst and FHSU in Season Opener

HAYS, Kansas - The Cameron University volleyball team opened the 2025 season on Friday as they took on Rockhurst and Fort Hays State in day one of the Tiger Invitational, falling 0-3 in both games.

The Aggies (0-2, 0-0 LSC) have two more games left in the round robin as they face Northwest Missouri and Arkansas Tech on Saturday to close out the weekend.

GAME ONE - CU 0, RU 3

The Aggies battled in a hard-fought match against a Hawks squad that finished 21-8 and earned a NCAA Midwest Regional berth in 2024. After falling to a six-point deficit early in the first set, the Aggies rallied back to make a two-point game before Rockhurst pulled away to take the first set, 18-25.

Cameron battled back from a similar setback in the second set, falling behind 7-2 before surging once again to tie the set at 11-11. The Aggies kept Rockhurst to no more than a two-point lead before the Hawks pulled back out to a 22-17 lead, but once more than Aggies did not go away as they fought back to a 24-24 tie before Rockhurts took the set, 24-26.

After two closely contested sets, the Hawks held a comfortable lead through most of the third set before taking the win, 14-25.

ASUN Preseason Offensive Player to Watch Presleigh Roest racked up a team-leading 11 kills in the match, posting a .333 attack percentage. Anastasija Andelic led the squad in digs with 12 and contributed five kills of her own. Meanwhile, Rachael White and Kayla Quintana both tallied double-digit assists with 15 and 13, respectively.

GAME TWO - CU 0, FHSU 3

The Aggies' second match of the day played out similarly to the first, with Cameron putting up a stout fight before the Tigers pulled away late to take the sets.

Fort Hays State took the win in straight sets, 18-25, 17-25, and 16-25.

Haley Beggs led the way offensively in the second game with seven kills and a .400 attack percentage. Andelic repeated as the team's leading defensive player, racking up 13 digs in the match for a total of 25 on the day, alongside four more kills. White posted double-digit assists in back-to-back games, recording 12 against the Tigers.
