Lawton, Okla. - The Cameron University Volleyball team opened play at the Cameron University Invitational Friday afternoon with a five-set battle against Minot State University inside Aggie Gym. The Aggies jumped out to a two-set advantage before the Beavers rallied to take the final three sets, as Cameron fell 17-25, 23-25, 25-21, 25-15, 15-11. Cameron came out strong in the opening set, using an early run behind the serve of Madison Waiki to build an 8-1 advantage. The Aggies maintained control throughout the set, with Maria Osorio and Caitlyn Cornell helping provide the offensive production before Cameron closed out the first set 25-17. The Aggies hit .310 in the opening frame with 12 kills and just three attack errors. The second set proved much tighter, but Cameron again found a way to finish. After Minot State pulled within one at 24-23, Maria Osorio delivered the set-winning kill to give Cameron a 25-23 victory and a 2-0 lead in the match. Minot State responded in the third set, building an early advantage before Cameron attempted to battle its way back. The Aggies trimmed a late deficit with kills from Presleigh Roest, Osorio and Waiki, but the Beavers held on to extend the match. Minot State then carried the momentum into the fourth set to force a deciding fifth. Cameron continued to battle in the final frame after falling behind 3-0. The Aggies answered with five consecutive points to take a 5-3 lead, highlighted by a kill from Taylor Silva. The teams traded momentum before Minot State pulled ahead late. Cameron cut the deficit to 14-11 on a service ace from Cornell, but the Beavers secured the next point to finish the five-set match.

Key Performers

Maria Osorio led the Cameron attack with a team-high 14 kills on 35 attempts. She added five digs and three block assists, finishing with a team-high 15.5 points.
Presleigh Roest turned in an efficient performance at the net with eight kills on 22 attacks and a .227 hitting percentage. Roest also contributed a team-high four block assists and finished with 10 points.
Caitlyn Cornell added eight kills on 19 attempts while hitting .263. She also recorded three digs, a service ace and Cameron's lone solo block to finish with 10 points.
Madison Waiki provided production on both sides of the ball, recording six kills while leading the Aggies with 24 digs. She also delivered a team-high two service aces and finished with eight points.
Mavery Salisbury directed the Cameron offense with a team-high 21 assists while adding six digs, one kill and a service ace.
Addison McClure added 13 digs and four assists defensively for the Aggies.

Cameron University Volleyball closed out the opening day of the Cameron University Invitational Friday night against Newman University at Aggie Gym. The Aggies continued to battle throughout the match, pushing the Jets in the final set before falling in three sets, 25-19, 25-21, 25-23. Cameron opened the match with the first two points behind a kill from Maria Osorio and a service ace from Mavery Salisbury. Newman responded with a run to take control of the opening set, but the Aggies continued to battle and used a late 6-1 run to pull within five at 22-17. Newman eventually closed out the set 25-19. The Aggies came out strong in the second, building an early 7-3 advantage behind kills from Presleigh Roest and Lillian Carollo. Newman answered with a run of its own to take the lead, but Cameron continued to fight back. An Emily Jaramillo service ace helped the Aggies cut the deficit to 19-14 before Cameron later pulled within three at 24-21. The Jets collected the final point to take the set 25-21. Cameron saved its strongest offensive performance for the third set, recording 13 kills and hitting .182. After falling behind 9-2, the Aggies steadily worked their way back into the set. A Leticia Costa service run helped Cameron erase a six-point deficit and tie the score at 17-17, and the teams continued trading points down the stretch. Cameron tied the set again at 22-22 and later fought off one match point with an Osorio kill to make it 24-23 before Newman secured the final point for the 25-23 win.

Key Performers

Maria Osorio and Presleigh Roest led Cameron offensively with six kills apiece. Roest also added a solo block, while Osorio finished with a dig.
Caitlyn Cornell turned in an efficient performance with four kills on 10 attacks and just one error for a team-best .300 hitting percentage. She also contributed four digs, one solo block and two block assists.
Lillian Carollo added five kills while hitting .143 and recorded a block assist.
Addison McClure and Madison Waiki anchored the Cameron defense with 15 and 16 digs, respectively.
Leticia Costa led the Aggies with 13 assists and added a service ace, while Mavery Salisbury finished with 10 assists, four digs and an ace.
