Aggies Downed Twice in Final Day at CBU Tournament

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Cameron volleyball team fell in both matches at the Christian Brothers Tournament Saturday afternoon. The Aggies lost in four to CBU (24-26, 18-25, 25-20, 22-25) and dropped a straight set match to Ouachita Baptist (7-25, 21-25, 13-25).

The Aggies struggled offensively with 25 attack errors in the first two sets against CBU, but senior Amber Schroer pounded down 10 kills to lead Cameron’s offense. However, for the match Schroer had a game-high 17 kills and junior Malyssa Acton had her first double-double of the season with 10 kills and 11 digs.

In the first set, Cameron found itself down six (14-8), but managed to storm back and tie it at 22. During the middle game, the Aggies came out and led by seven (13-6), but CBU’s Allison Welch sparked the Pirates comeback with a three consecutive points.

Facing a sweep, Cameron was down early again, but a 9-1 run gave the Aggies a lead they wouldn’t lose. The run was sparked by three straight defensive laps by CBU and then a service ace by junior Amanda Filiaga gave Cameron a lead for the duration.

The fourth set went back and forth early until Cameron grabbed a three point lead (17-14), but an match ending 9-5 run by CBU gave them the win.

Against OBU, Cameron’s offensive struggles continued as it hit just .125 for the match. Freshman Megan Olivarez led the Aggies’ offense with seven kills and senior Valerie Ogle had a team-high nine assists.

The next action for Cameron will be Fri., Sept. 10 at the Tarleton State Invitational. The Aggies first match will be against another region foe Southwest Baptist at 5:30 p.m.
