Aggies Lose Close Fight In Texas

DALLAS, Texas (Oct. 29, 2011) — Cameron dropped one of the closest four game matches you will ever see to Dallas Baptist Saturday, 24-26, 25-18, 19-25 and 23-25.

“It was one of those matches … a play here, a play there determines the outcomes,” said Head Coach Doug Tabbert. “It was good, very competitive. We did a good job of, when we didn’t play well and dug a hole, working our way back into it.”

The afternoon showdown turned out to be a back and forth affair, with each team winning games. In game one, the teams matched each other point for point, but it was the Patriots that ended up on top, 26-24.

In game two, Cameron (14-12, 8-9) went on a tear, scoring six unanswered points on three Dallas Baptist errors, to pull ahead 15-8. The Aggies battled the rest of the game, with freshman Kelle Carver claiming the final three kills.

Senior Adrienne Lawson and Carver helped keep the Aggies close in game three, but Dallas Baptist found a way late. The teams traded points before the Patriots pulled ahead 17-13, en route to a 25-19 victory.

Game four closely resembled game, as the Black and Gold went tick for tack with the DBU. Cameron took the lead late, 23-22, but the home team would score three consecutive points to win 25-23.

Carver finished with 18 kills, tops for the Aggies, followed by Lawson with 14. Junior Julisa Ocasio was a force defensively with 35 digs.

She (Ocasio) was just all over the place making plays,” Tabbert said. “It’s just one of those situations where she was everywhere. Sarah (Corbett) had a very good day offensively. She had a lot of swings and was very efficient. Addy (Lawson) at times was really … she really had her way at times. She was dominant.”

Cameron will return to action Tuesday, taking on rivals Midwestern State (15-12, 7-10) at 7 p.m. in the Aggie Gym. ¬
