Lawton, Okla. (Oct. 6, 2011) ¬¬ Cameron dropped a hard-fought contest against Angelo State in the Aggie Gym Thursday, falling to the nationally ranked Belles in three sets, 25-19, 25-19, 26-24.
“At times we played very well, but we had a hard time sustaining some things,” said Cameron Head Coach Doug Tabbert. “They are very good and make it (playing consistently) difficult. They deserve a lot of credit for the outcome.”
Cameron (10-7, 4-5) fought hard in each game, remaining very competitive until the very end. Tabbert said his team did a great job on serve receive, as well as ball-handling, adding “our passers across the board deserve a lot of credit.”
But in the end, the Belles (19-2, 8-1) remained too strong for Cameron to mount a comeback. The loss drops the Aggies under .500 in the conference for the first time since early in the season, and places them in a logjam with five other teams in the middle of the standings.
“We’re still positioned well and have given ourselves a good chance to make the (conference) tournament,” the coach said. “That’s a positive step for us.”
Cameron (10-7, 4-5) will travel now shift its focus to Abilene Christian (10-10, 4-4) as it prepares to take on the Wildcats at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Aggie Gym.
