ARLINGTON, Texas - After a slew of delays and cancellations, the Cameron Aggies men's tennis team was finally able to get their season underway with a trip to UT-Arlington where they fell 6-1 on Friday.
Santiago Romero and
Patrick Eichler took on Yauheni Yakauleu and Erik Hjertonsson in the top doubles flight and picked up a 9-8 decision.
UTA's David Subirats and Nicholas Moreno had a close match against
Duje Janjic and
Thomas Peixoto but were able to take an 8-6 win from the Aggies.
In No. 3 doubles,
Manuel Barroetavena and
Nicolas Clerc took on Briuec Hamon and Lucas Leppin and dropped an 8-4 decision.
The Mavericks, having won the doubles point, added points in all but one singles spot with Clerc coming away with a 6-4,6-2 victory over Moreno.
Romero took the first set over Yakauleu 6-3 but fell in the second 3-6. In the super tiebreaker it took Yakauleu 10 rounds to win the match.
Leppin recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win against Eichler in the No. 2 singles spot while Hjertonsson defeated Peixoto 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3.
Hamon battled in the first set against Janjic but won the first set 7-6 and cleaning up 6-3 in the second.
Subirats wrapped up the No. 5 singles spot with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Barroetavena.
