No. 27 Aggies Open Tennis Season with Win at Dallas Baptist, 5-4

DALLAS – The No. 27 Cameron Aggies (1-0) women’s tennis team didn’t let the winter storm completely ruin their trip to Dallas this weekend as they opened up the 2011 Spring competition season with a 5-4 win over Dallas Baptist.

Amanda Moberg, No. 27 nationally, opened up with a straight set, 6-0, 6-1 victory over Lisa Olian in singles play at the No. 1 position.

Moberg’s doubles partner, Julia Puckhaber added a second point for the Aggies with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 victory over Leah Rutt at No. 2 singles.

Dallas Baptist climbed back into contention with three victories in singles as Antonia Moberg, Elvira Sholles and Sara Lodono all fell.

Florencia Tornero added the clinching point for the Aggies with a straight set victory over Lexi Yeado, 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles competition, Cameron was 2-1 with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots.

Amanda Moberg and Puckhaber, the No. 14 doubles team nationally, defeated Hannah Innes and Natalie Gennissen 8-4 while Tornero and Sholles packed up an 8-3 win.

The Aggie women return to the court on Feb. 23 when they travel to Shawnee to take on Oklahoma Baptist. Matches are set to start at 1 p.m.
