PENSACOLA, Fla. - Cameron women’s tennis team had a rough start at the West Florida tournament on Friday, falling 9-0 to the No. 2 team in the nation, Brigham Young University-Hawaii (BYUH).
The No. 14 doubles pair of Amanda Moberg and Julia Puckhaber dropped the doubles match at the No. 1 position 8-4 to the No. 2 tandem of Elwen Li and Yuan Jia.
CU’s Elvira Sholles and Antonia Moberg played a hard-fought match at the No. 3 spot, but it was their opponents Sasha Ulbrichtova and Sophia Simmons who took the 9-8(4) win.
Sara Londono and Florencia Tornero were also unable to come up with a victory at the No. 3 doubles position, falling 8-0.
In singles play, Amanda Moberg and Puckhaber were taken out by the No. 2 and No. 3 players in the nation in Jia and Li at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
Tornero put up a fight at the No. 6 spot against Kaylyn Bristol. Tornero picked up the first set 6-3, but Bristol took the second 7-6(4) and went on to secure the win by clenching the super tiebreaker 13-11.
The Black and Gold faced defeat at the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 positions as well.
The Aggie women will next see action on Saturday when they take on No. 5 West Florida.
