LAWTON, Okla. – It took one pitch for Aggie junior Kenny Held to decide he liked what he saw before ripping a towering walk-off home run to right center to give the Cameron Aggies (12-4, 9-3 LSC) a 2-1 victory in game one of Saturday’s double header with Newman (7-14).
It was the first of two Held homers of the afternoon and the timeliest as the Aggies needed a spark offensively.
In game two, the Ags exploded for 12 runs on ten hits while playing errorless baseball.
Game one was a pitcher’s duel as both teams combined for just seven hits including Held’s game winner in the final stanza.
In contrast, game two featured 18 eights and six different pitchers between the two squads.
Newman jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning but gave up three in the bottom half as Held picked up his second whammy of the day, a three-run shot to bring in Josh Dawson and Chase Larsson.
The Jets added four in the second to make it 6-3 before CU added a single run in the bottom half to cut the lead to 6-4.
In the bottom of the fourth, Head Coach Todd Holland’s squad cranked out six runs on just two hits as the Ags were patient at the plate, drawing necessary walks, and finding their pitches. In the half-inning, Taylor Lyons and Joe Halley picked up RBIs on singles to the outfield.
Up 10-6, Cameron added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth to pad their lead at 12-6.
The Aggies return to the diamond tomorrow with another non-conference opponent in Texas-Permian Basin at McCord Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
