Alpine, Texas - The Cameron University baseball team won the series finale on Sunday afternoon, and swept Sul Ross State on the weekend. This marks the first sweep since 2017 for Cameron Baseball, and the first sweep under Head Coach
Holden Capps.
Cameron scored the first runs of the game in the top of the first inning, scoring two runs on two singles. Sul Ross State tied the game up after scoring off a one run in the bottom of the first and another off a solo home run in the bottom of the third. The Aggies took the lead again, 4-2, in the top of the fifth inning off an RBI triple from
Diego Villarreal and an RBI single from
Zane Roos. Cameron added on to the lead in the top of the sixth with an RBI single from Villarreal. The Lobos added on a run in the bottom of the sixth off of a sacrifice fly.
Nick Oliveira hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh to extend the lead to 7-3, his first collegiate home run. Sul Ross State cut the deficit to two runs int he bottom of the eighth, but Cameron answered with two more runs in the top of the ninth to get the lead back to four runs. The Lobos tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth with a two-run home run, but the Aggies' pitching closed out the game for the win and the series sweep.
