LAWTON, OK — Cameron Athletics held their annual Athletics Awards Banquet Celebration to honor their athletes for the 2025-26 season on May 4th.
All 14 athletic programs gathered at the McCasland Foundation Ballroom on Monday night accompanied by Cameron University President, Shane Hunt. Athletic Director Lou Izzi, began the ceremony highlighting the accomplishments of the many teams across the department. A video presentation allowed the student-athletes to relive their most successful moments from the year.
Izzi gave way for Colleen Turner, Head Coach of the Spirit Team, for her announcement of the Spirit Award, which was presented to Kamryn Burt from the Dance team. The next honor presented was the Iron Pick Axe that was given to Men's Golf for their achievements in the weight room.
Taking home the Coach of the Year honors was Head Baseball Coach, Holden Capps.The Men's Golf team was then honored for capturing the 2026 Lone Star Conference Championship which was the first since 2016 and the 12th in program history, a Lone Star Conference record. Associate Athletic Director for Compliance Ashton Howard and Assistant Athletic Director for Administration Josh Cobble then recognized the seniors and graduate assistants that contributed to the Aggies' 2025-26 season.
The final awards of the night were the Female and Male Rookie of the Year, and the Female and Male Athlete of the Year honors. Kyley Cochran from Softball earned Female Rookie of the Year and Nick Oliveira from Baseball earned Male Rookie of the Year. Haley Gardella took home the Female Athlete of the Year award and Lukas Janousek took home the Male Athlete of the Year award.

Male Athlete of the Year - Lukas Janousek (Men's Tennis)
- Lukas is a sophomore from Czechia Republic. He burst onto the scene in the fall when he captured the ITA South Central Region men's singles championship. This spring, he has anchored the regionally-ranked men's tennis team, earning LSC 1st team all-conference honors in both singles and doubles. Lukas has posted a 20-4 record on the year in singles and currently is ranked as the #7 player in the country in Division II.
Female Athlete of the Year - Haley Gardella (Softball)
- Haley is a sophomore from Royse City, Texas. She is a power-hitting catcher and 3rd baseman, who was a force all season long. Haley led her team with 19 home runs, a .383 batting average, 66 hits, 15 doubles, 61 runs batted in, and 138 total bases.
Male Rookie of the Year - Nick Oliveira (Baseball)
- A 1st baseman and pitcher from Jacksonville, Florida, Nick has exploded on the scene with an impressive freshman season in which he posted a .307 batting average with 7 doubles, 4 home runs, 22 runs batted in, and .435 on-base percentage. He also has recorded a .960 fielding percentage from 174 chances.
Female Rookie of the Year - Kyley Cochran (Softball)
- Kyley is a freshman from Sanger, Texas. In her 1st year, Kyley emerged as the starting shortstop and played in 46 games, hitting a solid .292 with a .364 on base percentage. In the field, Kyley made 32 put-outs to go along with 58 assists.
