by Amanda Cantu, Sports Information Graduate Assistant

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron men’s tennis team continued its win streak on Friday after dispatching both Colorado State-Pueblo(CSU-Pueblo) and East Central (ECU). CU grabbed an easy victory over CSU-Pueblo, defeating the Thunder Wolves 9-0.

The Aggies won all three doubles matches in convincing fashion. The No. 1 pair of Patrick Eichler and Santiago Romero dismissed their counterparts 8-1, while the No.2 and No. 3 positions picked up identical 8-2 victories.

The men continued to dominate their opponents in singles play by failing to drop a set.

CU sophomore Jorge Gerosi played two sets of excellent tennis, clutching a 6-0, 6-0 win over CSU-Pueblo’s Mateus Vasconcelos at the No 5 spot. Aggie junior Mateus Campos also secured an impressive victory at No. 6, beating his challenger 6-0, 6-2. The Aggies picked up straightforward wins at the No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 positions as well.

Later in the afternoon, CU faced off against the ECU Tigers and overpowered them 8-1. The No. 3 doubles tandem of Jeff Sasser and Manuel Barroetavena picked up a routine 8-2 win over the ECU duo of Julian Caminos and Carlos Muro. CU’s No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams were also victorious, winning 8-5 and 8-6 respectively.

In singles, Romero defeated Andres Nunez at the No. 1 spot with a 6-4, 6-2 win. Aggie newcomer Nicolas Clerc, who played at the No. 6 position, made quick work of his opponent Ignacio Lucero, dismissing him 6-0, 6-0. The Black and Gold also captured wins at the No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 spots.

The only loss came at the No. 3 position. CU’s Thomas Peixoto seized the first set 6-2, but dropped the second 5-7. Peixoto and his opponent Muro went on to play an intense super tiebreaker, however it was Muro who came up with the 10-8 win.

The Aggies will be in action again on Saturday, March 5 at 9 a.m. when they take on Southwest Baptist at the CU Tennis Complex.
