by Amanda Cantu, Sports Information Graduate Assistant

The Cameron tennis teams produced big conference and regional wins at their home courts on Friday. The Aggie men secured two victories, while the women earned one.

The No. 19 men kicked off the day by dispatching conference foe Incarnate Word 6-1.

In the clash against the Cardinals, the men took two of the three doubles matches.

Thomas Peixoto and Patrick Eichler grabbed an 8-5 win over David Ballenger and Luke Troutman. Jeff Sasser and Duje Janjic collected a thrilling 9-8(3) decision against Carlos Olvera and Aidan DeLeon.

Janjic picked up another victory against Olvera in singles, defeating him 6-3, 7-6(4).

CU sophomore Jorge Gerosi earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over Troutman at the No. 5 spot, while Barroetavena dismissed Ballenger 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4.

Nicolas Clerc dismantled Nicholas Mikulcic 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 6 position in what was yet another routine win for the Argentine.

The team carried their winning streak into the afternoon, defeating regional rival No. 18 Northwest Missouri 5-3 and improving their overall record to 18-3. In the regional rankings, the Bearcats claim the No. 3 position, whereas the Aggies hold on to No. 4.

Once again the men went up 2-1 in doubles play, with the pairs at the No. 1 and No. 2 slots both securing 8-5 victories.

No. 18 Santiago Romero had a big win at the No. 1 slot, overcoming Malcolm Harris 7-5, 6-2. Regionally, Romero is No. 2 while Harris sits at No. 3.

Barroetavena and Gerosi also saw success for CU, recording 6-2, 6-3, and 6-4, 6-1 decisions, respectively.

The remainder of the matches were left unfinished, as the Aggies had already secured the win.

The Aggie women also bested Northwest Missouri. They generated a 5-0 result and now claim a 14-5 record.

CU took all three doubles matches decisively.

The tandem of Amanda Moberg and Julia Puckhaber crushed Erika Leston and Leslee Feldhaus 8-0 at the No. 1 slot.

Sara Londono and Florencia Tornero conquered their opponents with an 8-3 win at No. 2, while Elvira Sholles and Antonia Moberg defeated Sureena Weir and Alison Wulff at the No. 3 spot.

In singles, Sholles outlasted Weir at the No. 3 position and clenched a 6-1, 6-1 victory.

Florencia Tornero had an impressive win at No. 6, double bageling Ashleigh Kaberline.

Like in the men’s contest against the Bearcats, the rest of the matches were left unfinished.

The women will be back in action again at 9 a.m. tomorrow when the square off against Incarnate Word at the CU tennis courts.
