Volleyball Team Loses To Javelinas In Three Games

Lawton, Okla. (Sept. 15, 2011) ¬¬— Cameron’s road trip got off to a bad start Thursday, as the Aggie volleyball team lost to Texas A&M-Kingsville in three games, 25-19, 25-17, 25-22.

The Aggies struggled in the first two games, failing to find any rhythm. Despite the rhythm, Cameron was able to hang with Kingsville in both the first two sets before surrendering large swings of momentum.

“We just didn’t get off to a very good start,” said Head Coach Doug Tabbert. The coach said when that happens; it gives the other team encouragement and incentive to keep their play at a high level. “Had we gotten off to a better start, it could be a different scenario.  We just didn’t play like ourselves.”

In the third set, the Aggies began to build momentum and tied the game at 18 on a Lawson ace. However, the Javelinas would win the next three points to pull away to a 25-22 victory.

Sophomore Lauryn Lozano led the way for the Javelinas (3-4, 1-4), converting on 19 out of 41 attacks.  Senior Adrienne Lawson led the Aggies (3-3, 2-2) with 13 kills on 31 attempts.  Tabbert said Lawson’s offensive numbers look good, but the entire team struggled on the defensive end.

“We didn’t receive well at all,” he said. “We couldn’t keep ourselves stable. We would go on runs, then make uncharacteristic mistakes.”

The one positive, Tabbert said, is the game on Saturday against Incarnate Word (5-6, 2-3).

“We’ve just got to come out and play better,” he said.
