Lawton, Okla. (Sept. 8, 2011) ¬¬— Cameron’s volleyball team responded to a hard fought loss at home with a 3-0 shutout of Texas Woman’s, winning each set 25-21, evening its record at 2-2
“We competed well and played hard,” said head coach Doug Tabbert. “We made some mistakes but bounced back well and that’s always a positive sign.”
The Aggies were lead statistically by senior Adrienne Lawson, who lead the team with 18 kills and a .484 attack percentage. Malyssa Acton contributed 10 kills, with a .250 attack percentage, to combine for a lethal combination on the left side.
“The left continued to get critical kills in critical situations,” Tabbert said.
The first set saw Cameron pull out to a four point lead at 14-10, but TWU came back strong to knot the game at 18. CU would go on to win seven out of the next 10 points to claim the set.
The second set remained close to 20 all, before the Aggies pulled the momentum and five out of six points. The third set was more of the same, as neither team refused to let of the pedal. The Pioneers remained close, pulling to within one at 20-19 but the Aggies continued its physical play en route to a 25-21 victory.
“We found a way to win rallies as we needed to,” the coach said. “I hope that we are defining a level of effort we are willing to bring on a regular basis. We have to make a commitment after this point to playing this hard.”
Saturday, Cameron will take on Texas A&M Commerce at 2 p.m. in the Aggie Gym, a team that Tabbert said will push his team.
“They’re going to come in and be a handful for us,” he said.
