LAWTON, Okla. – Cameron’s chances to making the Lone Star Conference Tournament took a hit after falling in four sets (25-23, 14-25, 16-25, 16-25) to Texas A&M Kingsville on Saturday afternoon.
“We just struggled in every aspect today,” said head coach Doug Tabbert. “It was one of those matches that nothing really worked for us. We came back in set one but after that we just didn’t play very well.”
Cameron (8-16, 3-10) in set one got behind early trailing 11-5 but they went on a 9-3 run to even the set. From there both teams traded points until the Aggies took a late 23-22 lead and held on to win 25-23.
In set two, the Aggies struggled offensively with a -.115 attack and managing only three kills falling 25-14.
The same can be said for CU in sets three and four only managing to put together 16 points in both sets.
The key statistic was blocks during the match with TAMUK coming up with 14 blocks compared to four by Cameron. Additionally, TAMUK had a .331 attack, with 62 kills, and only 14 errors compared to a .122 attack, 38 kills, and 21 errors for CU.
Offensively for the Aggies, Shannon Dulaney had 11 kills and Kathryn Evans put together 10 kills. Julisa Ocasio and Mariah Westlake both had 15 digs.
With the loss to Texas A&M Kingsville today Cameron falls back two matches of eighth place in the LSC standings in order to make the post season tournament with only eight matches left in the season.
Cameron will return to action on Tuesday, Oct 23 as they will travel to Canyon, Texas to play West Texas A&M.
