Box Score
“We competed well and played really well this afternoon,” said head coach Doug Tabbert. “We just had a hard time stopping them offensively. They (TWU) are really good with some big arms and when it got down to crunch time they did what they needed to do to get the job done.”
“Last night we were non-existent up at the net defensively but today we made some improvements and got a few good touches,” Tabbert said. “Overall, we did a better job today than we have had done in the last few weekend on defense.”
In set one the Aggies (8-19, 3-13) started strong getting out on front 11-6 over the Pioneers (18-6, 12-4) but that lead diminished after a 6-1 run by TWU forcing Cameron to burn a timeout to regroup. Both teams then began to exchange points until the Pioneers started to pull away late leading 20-17 making Tabbert burn his last timeout of the set.
The timeout wasn’t enough to shake the TWU momentum as they would take five out the next six points winning the set 25-18.
Evans recorded an outstanding nine kills on one error, hitting .444 during the set.
After both teams starting the second set trading possessions, Cameron pulled ahead of Texas Woman’s with a 14-11 advantage. The Aggies managed to hold onto a 22-18 lead before TWU got points from a CU service error and a kill making Cameron use a timeout.
Once again the Pioneers made the set interesting by tying the set at 23 and Cameron would spend their final timeout of the set. TWU would then get to set point twice before winning 27-25 and taking a 2-0 match lead.
Following the set two break Cameron again got off to an early 11-5 lead over Texas Woman’s hitting .333 as a team. The Aggies would have a difficult time sustaining their lead after the Pioneers would go on a 12-2 run to lead the set 17-13 and Cameron would use a timeout to regroup.
Now playing from behind, Cameron would not be able to overcome the TWU lead and would lose set three 25-18.
As a team the Aggies hit .173, with 37 kills, and 59 digs, The Pioneers on the other hand hit .283, with 57 kills, and 75 digs. Both teams were even with eight blocks.
Evans led the Aggie offence with 18 kills and hit .245 to lead the Aggie offence. Shannon Dulaney had eight kills and two blocks. Annelise Carpenter came up with six kills and six blocks (one short of tying a career high). Jenna Risoli recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 28 assists and 12 digs. Julisa Ocasio had 15 digs to lead the Aggies.
“This was a rough road trip for us but it will be good to get home and play and some teams on our court this next week,” Tabbert said. “I told the team after the match that if they commit to the same effort as we did today in the remaining matches anything can happen still.”
Cameron will return to the Aggie Gym for four of their next five matches starting on Oct. 30 against Southeastern Oklahoma at 7 p.m. for Dig for a Cure Night.
