Aggie Women Rout Midwestern

WICHITA FALLS – The No. 20 Cameron University women’s tennis team returned to action today against Red River rival No. 39 Midwestern State. The women had no problem handling their conference foe and documented an 8-1 victory.

The women collected two of the three doubles matches. The pairs at the No. 1 and No. 2 slots each defeated their counterparts in routine 8-3 decisions. However, the twosome of Florencia Tornero and Antonia Moberg fell in a close 8-6 contest.

Tornero and Antonia Moberg both redeemed themselves in singles play. The Argentine picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win over Lindsey Buenger at the No. 5 position, while the Swede cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the No. 6 spot.

Sara Londono and current Lone Star Conference Player of the Week Elvira Sholles were successful for the Aggies as well. Londono eased past Sarita Adhikary 6-3, 6-2 and Sholles’ solid performance at the No. 4 slot earned her the 6-4, 6-0 decision.

Julia Puckhaber and Amanda Moberg also sealed wins for the Black and Gold. Puckhaber, who is currently No. 28 in the nation, overwhelmed Lindsey Holcomb 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 2 position. Meanwhile, Amanda Moberg’s workman-like performance allowed her to gross the tough 7-5, 3-6, 11-4 victory at No. 1 over MSU’s top player Rozike van Rensburg.

The CU women now hold an amazing 21-3 record for the season. Their next competition will be at 1 p.m. on Friday when they battle Arkansas-Ft. Smith at the Streich-Henry Family Tennis Complex.
