SOUTHLAKE, Texas – The No. 20 Cameron University women’s tennis team fell to No. 6 Abilene Christian today in the final of the Lone Star Conference Championships. Nevertheless, the CU women are still able to boast an outstanding 22-4 record for the season.
The Black and Gold surrendered all three doubles contests. The All-Conference pair of Amanda Moberg and Sara Londono fell 8-3 to the No. 11 duo of Micah Hermsdorf and Hannah Kelly at the top position. Julia Puckhaber and Elvira Sholles put up a fight, but lost 8-5 at No. 2, while the tandem of Florencia Tornero and Antonia Moberg was taken out 8-1.
The Wildcats continued to pick up wins in singles competition. Emily Conrad and Kelly collected wins over CU’s Tornero and Antonia Moberg, allowing ACU to claim the 5-0 win. As the Texas team already secured the victory, the remainder of the matches was left unfinished.
Despite the loss, the Aggie women have earned their way into the NCAA Regional Championships. Regional play begins on April 29. More information regarding the regional competition will be provided as it becomes available.
