Ags sweep Missouri Southern

Box Score
JOPLIN, Mo. – Three weeks following their last win the Cameron University volleyball team returned to the win column sweeping Missouri Southern State on Tuesday night.

The win for Cameron (6-15) was their first since Oct. 1 at home against St. Gregory's and first against a NCAA school since Sept. 14 vs. Northwestern Oklahoma State. Missouri Southern State moves to 4-17 and has dropped 13 of their last 14 matches.

"We hung in there after getting off to a terrible start," said head coach Doug Tabbert. "As a team we responded well and played better down the stretch. Kelle (Carver) had a major role tonight in the win but we got help from the other side early from Maci (Terrell) and later from Grace (Newkirk). Getting help from the other side of the court was something that we have been missing this season and it was good to get that tonight."

"We're glad to get the win and do it in three sets," added Tabbert.

In the opening set Cameron started flat allowing the Lions to build up a 20-11 advantage. Despite the nine point MSSU lead, the Aggies turned a corner following their second timeout and responded back with an incredible 14-2 run to win 25-22. Cameron slammed down 13 kills and knocked down eight blocks; while hitting .222 percent on the court.

The Aggies controlled the second set from start to finish as they held MSSU to a .042 hitting percentage. Cameron's production went down recording ten kills but they took advantage of several Lion service errors to win 25-20.

Following the intermission, MSSU took an early 9-7 lead before Cameron responded back with a 7-0 run and pounded 16 kills to win the final set in the match 25-20.

Kelle Carver continued to lead the Aggie offense with 14 kills; Grace Newkirk added eight kills while only making two errors. Maci Terrell added five early kills while making only one error. Erin Hardy gave Cameron a match high 22 digs and Kayla Hebert chipped in 31 assists.

As a team CU had 14 total blocks while hitting .215 percent.

Cameron will return home for the first time in over three weeks hosting Angelo State and Tarleton State on Oct. 25-26.
