Box Score LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University volleyball team lost in three sets to the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs Tuesday night at the Aggie Gym.
The Aggies, who are now 7-22, hit below .200 in all three sets, and only managed three team blocks.
In their first non-conference home loss of the season, the Aggies battled through set one, but the SWOSU attack was one point, hitting .362 in the set and won 2. The second set started out as a defensive struggle, but turned into a decisive win by the Bulldogs, 25-16. Cameron battled back in the third set and looked to have a third frame win, but the Bulldogs had other plans, and fought back to take the set, 26-24.
"We got beat at the net basically all night long," said head coach Doug Tabbert. "We had a few good spurts down the stretch, but we didn't stop them as much as we needed to.
Cameron was led by
Kat Evans, who had nine kills and four service aces.
Kelle Carver added seven kills, while
Grace Newkirk had six of her own.
Kayla Hebert had her fourth double double of the season with 20 assists and 13 digs.
Erin Hardy had 20 digs, while
Jenna Risoli had 11 and is now four digs away from reaching 1,000 in her career at CU.
SWOSU got 16 kills, .414 hit percentage, and seven dig night from Alison Cole and 41 assists from Breann Whitaker. Defensively, Kenya Williams and Kaila Lancaster had 18 digs each, while Kiley Brennfoerder and Shayne Haley both had six of the teams nine total blocks.
"They were better tonight then when we played at their place and were more consistent tonight," added Tabbert. "I think it was more of what they did better, than what we did differently."
The Aggies will close out the regular season at home against Texas A&M-Kingsville. Cameron Athletics will honor their two volleyball seniors, Hardy and Risoli before the match.
