Cameron falls to Texas A&M Kingsville on Senior Day, 3-1

Box Score LAWTON, Okla. – Jenna Risoli reaches 1,000 digs for her career in the Aggies last match of the season, in which Cameron fell 3-1 to Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday afternoon at the Aggie Gym.

After losing set one 25-18, the Aggie defense did solid work in sets one and two and held the Javelinas under .200 for their attack percentage. In set two, the Cameron offense couldn't match Texas A&M-Kingsville and lost 25-19.

CU bounced back in set three and got a 25-21 win, setting the match at 2-1. Set four was closest with nine ties and 10 lead changes, but in the end, TAMUK used a couple of runs led by Kelsey Washington's attack ability and won the set, 25-22, and the match, 3-1.

"We get out to a 4-0 lead in the first set and then after that I thought we played very slow and tentative," said head coach Doug Tabbert. "We just didn't compete very well in the first two sets. "

"In the third set we played better, and kind of got a little help from them and got back in the match."

"We gave ourselves a chance in the fourth, and then kind of gave it away a little bit down the stretch," Tabbert added.  "Kelsey Washington hurt us down the stretch in the fourth and kind of took it over a little bit, we certainly had an opportunity in the fourth, but just didn't make plays."

Led by Kelle Carver and Kat Evans, who had 13 and 12 kills respectively, the Aggie offense hit .148 for the match. Kayla Hebert recorded 30 assists, and was one dig short of a double double.

"We got some contributions from a couple of spots, we weren't very balanced, but we haven't been for most of the year, which has been a deficiency for us they (TAMUK) knew who they had to key on and it's hard to be consistently successful when you struggle to get kills," said Tabbert.

After being recognized before the match, Cameron's two seniors, Risoli and Erin Hardy, led the Aggie defense.  Hardy led the team with 28 digs, while Risoli with her seven digs, passed the 1,000 mark and is now one of only two players in Cameron history to have over 3,000 assists and 1,000 digs for her career.

"Erin has certainly handled the libero spot well… she's been a solid contributor for us for two years, and we appreciate what she has done for us," said Tabbert.  "Jenna has a solid career her and adjusted to her position change pretty well, she is just a solid all-around player that has contributed in a lot of ways."

The Javelinas hit .180 for the match and were led by Washington, who had a double-double with 20 kills and 20 digs, and Dedra Brown with 12. They got 32 assists from Sarah Fountain and 14 from Giselle Carreon, while Mariah Carlin added 14 digs. TAMUK's 11 blocks helped them out a lot by containing the Aggie attack.

This was the final match for the Aggies this season and ended the season with a 7-23 overall record and a 0-16 Lone Star Conference record.
