Cameron hangs on to beat Incarnate Word, 1-0

Box Score

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Scoring was a premium for both Cameron and Incarnate Word who recorded four hits each but it was the Ags taking advantage of an error that would score the go-ahead run to win, 1-0 at Cardinal field on Saturday afternoon.

Kelsy Hebert tossed another strong outing going 6.1 innings for Cameron and earned the win.  Samantha Betts got the save; recording the final two outs of the game.

For Cameron (8-14, 2-4 LSC) it was a good bounce back series taking two-of-three from Incarnate Word, the defending Lone Star Conference Tournament Champions.

The only scoring action happened in the third when Jill Ledford singled to lead off the inning for Cameron, after advancing on a stolen base the Ags struck out back-to-back.   With two outs, Spencer Ferrell hit a bunt single moving runners to the corners.   Ferrell would then steal second but a run would score from a throwing error from the UIW catcher.

From there both pitchers would be locked in a duel until the bottom of the seventh inning where UIW hit a lead off double to put a runner in scoring position.  The Cardinals then dropped a SAC bunt pushing the runner to third with one out.  Cameron would then put in Betts who struck out an Incarnate Word batter for the second out.  The following Cardinal batter would then fly out to right field giving the Aggies the 1-0 win.

Cameron will return to action on March 19, hosting Oklahoma Christian at 1 p.m.
