LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University women's tennis team closed out their regular season with a 6-3 win over St. Edward's on Saturday afternoon.
The win comes one day after the Aggies dropped a 5-4 heartbreaker against Incarnate Word to close out the Lone Star Conference schedule.
Cameron (16-6) got wins in the one and three slot in doubles and took a 2-1 advantage over the Hilltoppers. The pairing of Amanda Moberg and Julia Puckhaber earned an 8-3 beating Sasha Khadzhyan and Florence Boinon for their thirteenth win of the season. While in the three slot, Elvira Sholles and Antonia Moberg got the 8-3 win for the Ags.
With the early lead, Cameron played strong in singles taking four matches. Amanda Moberg had no trouble beating Khadzhyan in the one slot, 6-2, 6-3. Puckhaber continued her successful senior year easing into a 6-1, 6-2 win over Paige Rachel. For the season, Puckhaber is 20-1 in singles, and has won her last 15 matches in a row.
St. Edward's would get wins in the four and six slot but Florencia Tornero and Sholles got victories in the three and five slots to give CU the 6-3 win.
Cameron will have the next few days off to prepare for the Lone Star Conference Tournament in Southlake, Texas on April 19-20; their opponent has not yet been determined.
